Skin boosters are a category of injectable treatment designed to deeply hydrate the skin, improve texture and enhance overall radiance. Unlike traditional dermal fillers, which add structural volume to smooth a line or restore a contour, skin boosters work by delivering moisture-retaining hyaluronic acid directly into the skin, stimulating collagen production and improving skin quality from within.
Some of the products we use, such as Redensity 1 and NCTF 135 HA, contain a lower concentration of hyaluronic acid but add a cocktail of amino acids, antioxidants, minerals and vitamins that work alongside the hyaluronic acid to improve skin texture and elasticity.
Skin boosters change the quality of your skin, not its shape. If what you need is more volume or lift, a dermal filler or a biostimulator like Sculptra is usually the better fit, and we'll talk through that at consultation.

What Happens During a Skin Booster Appointment?
Before Your Appointment
No special preparation is usually needed, but we advise avoiding blood-thinning supplements for a week beforehand to reduce bruising, including fish oil, vitamin E, Ginkgo biloba, ibuprofen and garlic supplements. You don't need to stop taking prescribed aspirin unless you've been specifically advised it's safe to do so. You'll be asked to complete an online medical form ahead of your visit, which we go through together at consultation to confirm the treatment is medically appropriate for you.
Your Consultation
Every appointment begins with a full consultation. Dr Caroline Warden will talk through your goals, the procedure, the potential risks, and your relevant medical history. If you're medically suitable and happy to proceed, you'll read and sign a consent form, and we'll take some before photos, which stay in your private clinical record and are never used without your permission.
During Your Treatment
We talk you through everything as we go. A strong numbing cream is applied first, so while you may feel a mild sting during injection, most patients find the treatment comfortable, and it typically takes under 10 minutes.
Aftercare
We take some after photos for your record, again never shared without consent, and talk through aftercare advice, which you'll also receive as a digital and physical copy to take home. You'll have Dr Caroline's direct contact details for any concerns, and we'll check in with you a few days after treatment.
How Many Skin Booster Treatments Will I Need?
Profhilo works best as a course of two sessions around four weeks apart, which is when most patients see their optimal result, with a top-up recommended roughly every six months to maintain it. NCTF and Redensity 1 are typically given as a short course of several sessions a few weeks apart, tailored to your skin's needs, with the exact number and interval confirmed at your consultation.

What's the difference between Profhilo, Redensity 1 and NCTF 135 HA?
All three combine hyaluronic acid with supporting ingredients, but they're formulated differently. Profhilo has the highest concentration of hyaluronic acid and is best suited to overall hydration and skin tightening. Redensity 1 and NCTF 135 HA contain less hyaluronic acid but add a broader cocktail of vitamins, amino acids and antioxidants aimed at revitalising tired or dull skin. How long do skin booster results last?
This varies by product and by individual. Profhilo typically lasts in the region of 6 to 9 months following a full course, while Redensity 1 and NCTF tend to last a little less, often 4 to 6 months, before a top-up is needed. We'll advise on the right maintenance schedule for you at consultation.
What is the downtime after skin boosters?
Downtime is generally minimal. It's common to see small raised bumps at the Profhilo injection points for a few hours afterwards, and mild redness, swelling or bruising can occur with any of the three products, usually settling within a few days. Most patients return to normal activities straight away, though we advise avoiding makeup for a few hours and vigorous exercise, saunas or alcohol for 24 to 48 hours.
Can skin boosters be combined with other treatments?
Yes. Skin boosters are frequently combined with other treatments as part of a wider skin quality plan. Polynucleotides pair particularly well with skin boosters for regenerative results, while Sculptra is often used alongside them where structure and lift are needed as well as skin quality. We'll suggest a combination and sequencing that suits your skin at consultation.
What does "ultra-pure hyaluronic acid" actually mean?
It refers to hyaluronic acid that's been highly purified to remove protein residues and other impurities left over from manufacturing, which reduces the risk of an inflammatory or allergic reaction. Profhilo, Redensity 1 and NCTF 135 HA are all manufactured to this standard by established European pharmaceutical companies.
Who is a good candidate for skin boosters, and who should avoid them?
Skin boosters suit most patients looking to improve hydration, texture and glow rather than change facial shape. They're not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with an active skin infection or cold sore in the treatment area, or if you have a known allergy to hyaluronic acid. If you have an autoimmune condition or take blood thinning medication, we'll discuss this carefully at consultation, which is why every patient completes a medical questionnaire and consultation before any treatment goes ahead.
Are skin boosters painful?
Most patients describe the treatment as mildly uncomfortable rather than painful. We apply a strong numbing cream beforehand to keep any stinging to a minimum, and the injections themselves are quick.
At what age should you start having skin boosters?
There's no fixed age. Because skin boosters address hydration and skin quality rather than deep lines, some patients start in their late 20s or early 30s as a preventative treatment, while for others it becomes more relevant in their 40s and 50s as hormonal changes affect skin hydration and collagen. What matters more than age is how your skin looks and feels, which we assess together at consultation.
Do skin boosters help with dark circles and under-eye skin quality?
