Obagi Blue Peel Radiance
What is the Obagi Blue Peel Radiance?
The Obagi Blue Peel RADIANCE® is a superficial salicylic acid-based chemical peel, expertly crafted to resurface the skin by removing damaged outer layers and encouraging cell turnover. This advanced formulation combines:
20% Salicylic Acid – a beta-hydroxy acid that deeply penetrates pores, reduces breakouts, and refines texture
1.6% Glycolic Acid – an alpha-hydroxy acid that enhances exfoliation and supports collagen renewal
1.4% Lactic Acid – a gentle exfoliant that hydrates while brightening uneven tone
The result is a radiant, refreshed complexion, often visible after just one treatment, with cumulative benefits when performed as a series.
What are benefits of the Obagi Blue Peel Radiance?
This treatment has been clinically formulated to address a broad range of common skin concerns:
• Improves fine lines and superficial wrinkles
• Smooths uneven skin texture and tone
• Brightens dull, tired-looking skin
• Visibly reduces signs of sun damage and photoaging
• Minimizes acne breakouts and refines pore appearance
• Targets pigmentation irregularities, including melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
Who is the Obagi Blue Peel Radiance for?
The Obagi Blue Peel Radiance is suitable for most patients because it is a gentle, superficial peel that requires minimal downtime. It is inclusive of all Fitzpatrick skin types, however a professional skin consultation is needed to assess the suitability of patients with sensitive skin or active conditions such as eczema or rosacea.
Those who would benefit the most are:
• Normal to oily skin types
• Individuals with mild to moderate photoaging
• Patients managing acne-prone skin
• Those seeking preventative or corrective anti-aging treatment
What should you expect when you have an Obagi Blue Peel Radiance with us?
Before your appointment:
No special preparation is needed, however, 5 - 7 days prior to undergoing your peel, you must refrain from certain treatments, such as laser hair removal, waxing and electrolysis. This is to reduce the chances of irritation on your skin. You must also temporarily stop using certain skincare actives during this time. This includes depilatory creams, retinoids and exfoliants.
Pre-appointment you will be asked to complete an online medical form. This is to make sure that you are medically suitable for the procedure and that there are no medical contraindications.
Your consultation:
During your consultation, Dr. Caroline will discuss your medical form in person, and discuss the treatment in more detail. She will assess your skin and address any questions or concerns that you might have. If you are medically suitable and you are happy to proceed with the treatment, we will then ask you to read and sign a consent form.
During your treatment:
If you are wearing any makeup, this will be removed prior to the treatment. Dr. Caroline will place vaseline over the delicate under-eye area and around the nose and top lip. This is to protect these sensitive areas during the peel. It is safe to use the Obagi peel if you have a beard, however, we will also protect the eyebrows for those patients who may have had them microbladed.
The treatment is relatively quick, lasting approximately 20 - 30 minutes. A first ‘pass’ is conducted across your skin, using gauze and left on for 2 minutes. During this you will likely experience a mild tingling sensation, or a feeling of warmth. Based on your Fitzpatrick skin type and how well your skin tolerates the peel, we may then do a second or third pass.
The Obagi Blue Peel Radiance is a self-neutralising peel. The end point for this peel is a light ‘pseudo-frosting’ across the skin. After the treatment we will apply the Obagi Sun Shield Broadspectrum SPF 50 in either the Cool/ Warm Tint (depending on your natural undertones), to protect your skin from UVA/UVB post-peel.
Post-Treatment:
Mild redness and light flaking may occur and typically resolve within 3–7 days. Downtime is minimal and makeup can usually be worn the next day.
What is the Obagi Blue Peel Radiance Aftercare Care?
To optimise results and protect your renewed skin:
• Avoid active skincare ingredients (retinol, exfoliants) for 3–5 days
• Use a gentle, non-stripping cleanser and barrier-repair moisturiser such as the Obagi Skin Barrier Recovery Cream
• Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 50+ daily to protect from post-peel sensitivity
• Do not pick or peel flaking skin
• Stay well-hydrated to support your skin’s recovery
How many sessions of the Obagi Blue Peel Radiance will I need?
The Obagi Blue Peel Radiance Facial delivers tighter, smoother, brighter-looking skin after just 1 use. A series of 4 - 6 peels spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart however, provides the most optimal and longer-lasting results. The number of sessions you choose to have is customisable to support a treatment plan based on your unique skin needs.
Why choose the Obagi Blue Peel Radiance?
This peel is a medical-grade skin renewal treatment with scientifically backed results. Whether preparing for a special occasion or integrating it into a long-term skin rejuvenation plan, the Obagi Blue Peel Radiance offers a visible improvement to your skin after just one session and luxurious yet effective way to maintain youthful, radiant skin.

Obagi Blue Peel RADIANCE – FAQ
-
Obagi Blue Peel RADIANCE is a superficial chemical peel designed to gently exfoliate the upper layers of the skin, revealing smoother, brighter, more radiant skin.
It uses a blend of salicylic acid and other exfoliating ingredients to improve the appearance of uneven tone, fine lines, mild pigmentation and congestion, with minimal downtime.
At Dr Caroline Warden Skin & Aesthetic Clinic in Hale, near Altrincham in South Manchester, we use Obagi Blue Peel RADIANCE as part of tailored skin-health plans for patients who want visible results without an aggressive, “time off work” peel.
-
This peel is ideal for treating and improving:
Dull, lacklustre skin
Mild to moderate uneven pigmentation and sun damage
Fine lines and early signs of ageing
Congested, blemish-prone or oily skin
Rough or uneven texture
“Tired” skin after stress, illness or hormonal changes
It’s a versatile option for patients in Hale, Altrincham, Bowdon and across South Manchester who want their complexion to look clearer, smoother and more even.
-
Obagi Blue Peel RADIANCE is suitable for many skin types, including oily and combination skin, and darker skin tones when used carefully within a proper protocol.
You may be a good candidate if you:
Want a gentle but effective entry-level medical peel
Don’t want significant downtime or heavy peeling
Have breakouts, clogged pores or post-inflammatory marks
Have early signs of sun damage from outdoor activities or commuting in South Manchester/Cheshire
It may not be suitable if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, on certain medications (such as isotretinoin), have active skin infections, open lesions, or very compromised skin barrier. A doctor-led consultation in Hale will confirm whether this peel is right and safe for you.
-
Obagi Blue Peel RADIANCE is a superficial chemical exfoliation:
The peel solution is applied in thin layers to the skin
Salicylic acid and other exfoliating agents break down the bonds between dead skin cells
This encourages controlled shedding of the dull, outermost layers
Over the following days, the skin looks clearer, smoother and more even-toned
Because it’s superficial, downtime is usually mild compared with medium or deep peels, making it a popular choice for busy patients in Hale and Altrincham.
-
Consultation
We take a full medical history and assess your skin concerns, existing skincare, lifestyle and any previous peels.
Preparation in clinic
Your skin is thoroughly cleansed and prepped.
Sensitive areas (corners of nose, mouth, eyes) are protected as needed.
Peel application
The Obagi Blue Peel RADIANCE solution is applied in one or more layers, depending on your skin and treatment plan.
You may experience a warm, tingling or mild stinging sensation while the peel is on.
Finishing
The peel is gently wiped off and post-peel products (soothing, hydrating, SPF) are applied.
You leave the clinic with tailored aftercare instructions.
Total appointment time is usually around 30 minutes, making it an easy treatment to fit into a lunch break or busy day.
-
Most people describe the sensation as:
Warmth, tingling or prickling, and
Occasionally mild stinging while the peel is active.
This typically settles quickly. The peel is monitored closely, and we can adjust exposure depending on your comfort and skin response. Overall, it is considered a well-tolerated, mild peel.
-
You can certainly have a single peel to freshen the skin before an event, but for best results we often recommend:
A course of 3–4 peels, spaced 2–4 weeks apart, depending on your skin and goals
Maintenance top-up peels a few times per year, combined with medical-grade skincare
During your consultation in Hale, we’ll create a realistic treatment plan that fits around your lifestyle and budget.
-
Many patients notice:
A fresher, brighter look within a few days
More even tone and smoother texture over 1–2 weeks
Progressive improvement in clarity and radiance over a course of peels
Results are maximised when the peel is combined with Obagi or other medical-grade skincare, daily SPF and healthy lifestyle habits.
-
Downtime is usually minimal to mild:
Redness immediately after treatment, similar to mild sunburn
Skin may feel tight, dry or slightly rough for a few days
Light flaking or peeling from day 2–5, particularly around the nose and mouth
Most patients feel comfortable to:
Return to work or normal activities the same day
Wear mineral or non-comedogenic makeup after 24 hours, as long as the skin is intact and products are gentle
We’ll talk you through exactly what to expect so you can plan treatments around social or work commitments in Hale, Altrincham and South Manchester.
-
Good preparation helps ensure safer, more even results. We usually recommend:
Using gentle, consistent skincare for at least 1–2 weeks before the peel
Avoiding strong actives (retinoids, AHAs/BHAs, scrubs) for 3–5 days beforehand, unless you’re on a structured Obagi protocol we’ve advised
Avoiding sunbeds and direct sun exposure as much as possible
Letting us know about any recent facials, waxing, laser, microneedling or peels
-
After your peel:
Avoid touching or picking at any flaking or peeling skin
Use only the gentle cleanser, moisturiser and SPF recommended by your practitioner
Avoid exfoliants, acids, retinoids and scrubs until your skin has fully settled (usually 5–7 days)
Avoid saunas, steam rooms, hot yoga and intense exercise for 24–48 hours
Apply broad-spectrum SPF 30–50 every day and avoid deliberate tanning
If you notice increased redness, swelling, discomfort or anything that worries you, contact the clinic so we can review and advise.
