Medical vs Cosmetic Skin Concerns in Hale, Cheshire
Many people come to us worried about a change in their skin. Sometimes that concern is medical and belongs with your GP or a dermatologist. Sometimes it is cosmetic, about the appearance, texture or quality of your skin, and that is where we may be able to help.
Please read this first. We are a cosmetic skin and aesthetic clinic in Hale, Cheshire. We do not diagnose or treat medical skin conditions, and we are not a substitute for your GP, your dermatologist or the NHS. If you have a skin problem that is new, changing, spreading, bleeding, painful or in any way worrying, please see your GP. You can also read more at nhs.uk.
Medical Skin Condition or Cosmetic Concern? The Difference Matters
A medical skin condition is something that needs proper assessment, diagnosis and often medical treatment. Eczema, psoriasis, skin infections, undiagnosed rashes, suspicious moles and changing lesions all sit firmly in this group. These belong with your GP or a dermatologist, and in many cases the NHS is exactly the right place to start.
A cosmetic skin concern is about how your skin looks and feels rather than an undiagnosed medical problem. Dullness, loss of glow, fine lines, uneven texture, the visible appearance of pigmentation, or simply skin that no longer behaves the way it used to. This is the area our clinic focuses on.
If you are unsure which one you are dealing with, start with your GP. It is always the safer first step.
Why We Ask You to See Your GP First
Although Dr Caroline Warden is an experienced NHS GP as well as an aesthetic doctor, this clinic is a cosmetic service, not a medical or diagnostic one. Her medical background is there for your safety. It means she will always recognise when a concern should be seen by your own GP or a dermatologist, and she will tell you so honestly, even if that means recommending no cosmetic treatment at all.
We will never remove, treat over or work around a skin problem that should be medically assessed. If there is any doubt, we will pause and ask you to see your GP. Anything that could be serious, including new or changing moles and non healing lesions, must be checked medically, and a cosmetic clinic is not the place for that.
How Our Hale Clinic Can Support Your Skin
Once any medical condition has been assessed and managed by the right person, or where your concern is purely cosmetic, we can help you build a supportive, realistic plan for healthier looking skin.
That may include a considered medical grade skincare routine to strengthen the skin barrier and improve skin quality, support for the appearance of pigmentation and uneven tone, and calming, barrier first advice for skin that has become dry, reactive or sensitive. The emphasis is always on protecting your skin health, not stripping it.
Cosmetic Removal of Benign Skin Blemishes
We offer cosmetic removal of clearly benign skin blemishes, such as skin tags and cherry angiomas, using advanced electrocautery.
We never remove moles, and we never treat any lesion that is new, changing, unusual or in any way concerning. If a blemish needs a medical opinion, we will decline to treat it and ask you to see your GP first. Peace of mind matters more than convenience.
Common Concerns We Are Asked About
Patients often ask us about acne, rosacea, redness and pigmentation. These can have medical causes, so anything new or troubling should always be assessed by your GP. Where a condition is already diagnosed and managed, or where your concern is genuinely about appearance and skin quality, we can often help with a gentle, cosmetic focused approach.
