I am delighted to introduce a new treatment at our doctor-led aesthetic clinic in Hale: Advanced Electrocautery which is a precise and effective way to remove common skin concerns quickly and safely.

This innovative procedure uses a fine electrical current to target unwanted lesions with accuracy, leaving the surrounding skin undisturbed. It’s ideal for anyone looking for skin tag removal, thread vein removal and a safe way to treat milia and cherry angiomas in Hale, Altrincham and the surrounding areas.

Cherry angiomas (blood spots) are small, bright red marks caused by dilated blood vessels and typically on the chest/around the breasts

What Can Electrocautery Treat?

Our Advanced Electrocautery treatment can successfully target a wide range of concerns, including:

  • Milia removal – those small, firm white bumps around the eyes, nose, or cheeks

  • Facial and chest thread veins – broken capillaries causing redness and visible lines

  • Spider veins on the face and chest

  • Skin tag removal – safe, quick, and effective for bothersome growths

  • Cherry angiomas (blood spots) – small, bright red marks caused by dilated blood vessels

These are some of the most common concerns patients search for when looking for non-surgical cosmetic treatments in Hale and Cheshire and electrocautery offers an excellent solution.

Skin tags are fleshy soft growths common in areas of friction such as around the neck and armpits

Electrocautery vs IPL for Thread Vein Removal

Many patients ask whether IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) or Electrocautery is better for treating thread veins. While IPL has its place, electrocautery is usually the superior choice for facial and chest veins.

  • More precise – Electrocautery pinpoints individual veins with a fine probe, whereas IPL works across a broader area.

  • Faster results – Most veins clear in one electrocautery session, compared to multiple IPL treatments.

  • Safer for all skin types – IPL relies on light absorption and isn’t suitable for everyone, while electrocautery avoids pigmentation risks.

  • Long-lasting outcomes – Electrocautery seals the vessel directly, making it less likely to reappear.

Thread veins are common in rosacea, alcohol excess and ageing skin

✨ In short, electrocautery is more effective, more precise, and more efficient than IPL for small facial and chest thread veins.

Pricing and Appointment Details

  • £220 for a 30-minute appointment

    • This includes your consultation and treatment time

    • During this session (approx 15 mins of actual treatment time), I can usually treat multiple thread veins, milia, or skin tags

The number of blemishes (milia, skin tags, thread veins, etc.) that can be treated varies depending on:

      • Type of blemish (milia are quick to treat, skin tags take slightly longer, thread veins can be slower depending on size and spread).

      • Size and location of the lesion.

      • Skin sensitivity and how many short breaks are needed.

      Typical Averages in 15 Minutes

      • Milia: around 10 (they are small and often quick to cauterise/remove).

      • Skin tags: around 5, depending on size and whether they are stalked or flat.

      • Thread veins: treatment is more gradual, about 2-3 cm of vessels can usually be cleared in 15 minutes.

      • Cherry angiomas / blood spots: around 5–8, depending on size and location

Most lesions can be treated in just one appointment, with visible results soon after. For larger or more persistent lesions, a follow-up may be needed. Any additional sessions are priced at £150, spaced 4+ weeks apart.

Consultation-Only Option

Not ready to have treatment on the day? You can choose a consultation-only appointment (£50). If you later decide to proceed with treatment, this fee will be deducted from your treatment cost. There will also be patient’s unsuitable for treatment on the day, for treatment in general or small proportion that would benefit from a ‘patch test’.

When a Patch Test is Recommended

If you have sensitive or reactive skin, history of multiple allergies, eczema, poorly healing skin, certain medical conditions or you simply would just prefer one, I will recommend this.

In this case I will treat a very small area that is less visible to ‘test’ the skin’s reaction and review you again in 3-4 weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions about Advanced Electrocautery

❓ Can electrocautery treat leg veins?

No

Electrocautery is not suitable for treating leg veins. This is because leg veins are usually larger, deeper, and often linked to underlying venous issues (like varicose veins or venous reflux). They require different treatments such as microsclerotherapy or laser vein therapy. Electrocautery is best for small, superficial veins on the face and chest, where it works precisely and effectively.

❓ How many sessions will I need?

Most skin tags, milia, cherry angiomas, and facial thread veins are treated in just one session. Occasionally, larger or more stubborn lesions may require a follow-up after 4+ weeks.

❓ Is the treatment painful?

Discomfort is usually minimal. Most patients describe a slight hot stinging sensation lasting 1-3 seconds each time , which is usually well tolerated.

❓ Is there any downtime after treatment?

Downtime is minimal. You may notice some mild redness, tiny scabs, or slight swelling in the treated area, but this usually settles within a few days. Makeup can often be applied the next day.

❓ Is electrocautery better than IPL for thread veins?

Yes, for small facial and chest veins, electrocautery is often more effective and precise than IPL. Results are usually seen after one session, with less risk of pigmentation changes.

❓ Can multiple skin concerns be treated in one appointment?

Yes, we can usually treat several milia, skin tags, or thread veins within a single 30-minute appointment.
