Polynucleotides

What are Polynucleotides?

Polynucleotides are highly purified fragments of DNA derived from salmon or trout sperm, used in regenerative aesthetic treatments. They act as powerful skin revitalisers, promoting deep tissue repair, hydration, and anti-inflammatory effects. Unlike traditional injectables that fill or paralyse, polynucleotides work by biologically enhancing the skin’s own repair processes to give incredibly natural results.

With multiple polynucleotide products on the market and not all created equal, we only use the Italian brand Mastelli- a product called Plinest®. Mastelli polynucleotides are known for their superior quality, potency, safety, and proven clinical results. It was even just crowned ‘Injectable Product of the Year’ at the prestigious Aesthetics Awards 2025 ! 3 reasons we only use Plinest:

Highest Purity and Safety

Plinest is formulated from ultra-purified salmon DNA, rigorously processed to remove proteins and allergens. It’s safe for ALL skin types, including sensitive or damaged skin.

Clinically Proven Results

Plinest is backed by over 30 years of research in dermatology and regenerative medicine. Its effects on skin rejuvenation, hydration, and healing are supported by peer-reviewed clinical studies.

Natural, Gradual Results

Plinest works with your body’s natural repair processes. You’ll see progressive improvements in skin tone, texture, and elasticity over a series of sessions without looking overdone.

How do Polynucleotides work?

Polynucleotides stimulate fibroblast activity, which in turn boosts the natural production of collagen and elastin. They also act as powerful antioxidants and improve microcirculation, helping to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in the skin. This results in gradual, long-term tissue regeneration, making the skin appear firmer, smoother, and more radiant.

What are the benefits of Polynucleotides?

Polynucleotide treatments can improve skin texture, hydration, elasticity, and tone. They are especially effective for treating under-eye circles, fine lines, dullness, and skin laxity. Because they work at a cellular level, the effects are natural-looking and progressive, with improvements continuing to develop over several weeks.  Polynucleotides are a versatile treatment suitable for a wide range of skin issues all over the face and body.

1. Under eyes rejuvenation: Polynucleotides are most commonly used to treat the delicate under eye area. They are great for improving under eye wrinkles, dryness, skin laxity and dark circles and general rejuvenation. When we treat this area we typically advise combining them with a high quality skin booster called NCTF (New Cellular Treatment Factor). This is a blend of hyaluronic acid, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, coenzymes, and other ingredients which can help with the rejuvenation process

2. Treating peri-oral lines: Polynucleotides are also great around the mouth area to reduce wrinkles such as ‘smokers lines’ and the neck to improve elasticity.

3. Calming Rosacea: Polynucleotides are fantastic for calming rosacea and improving the appearance of scars eg surgical like post c-section or old acne/chickenpox marks.

4. Hair: It’s also great for hair restoration.

What to expect during your Polynucleotide treatment?

Before the Procedure

  • Consultation: Pre-appoinment you will be asked to complete an online medical form that I will go through in person to make sure you are suitable. I will then evaluate your facial anatomy, discuss your goals, and explain the treatment plan. If you are medically suitable and you still want to go ahead with the treatment then we will do a consent form.

  • Prep: No special prep is usually needed, but we advise avoiding certain supplements or blood thinners for a week prior to reduce bruising such as fish oil, vitamin E, Ginkgo biloba, ibuprofen and garlic supplements. Don’t stop aspirin unless I have advised it’s safe to do so.

What to Expect During Your Appointment?

After a consultation and skin assessment, your skin will be thoroughly cleansed and numbed with a strong topical anaesthetic for comfort. I also use a cyroball (ice ball) to help numb the area and give you a vibration wand to hold for distraction.

I use ‘nanosoft’ needles which are incredibly tiny to inject small amounts of polynucleotide when injecting under the eyes. The injections themselves can sting but it usually only takes around 15 minutes.

What to expect after?

You will be given detailed aftercare advice via leaflet and email. The areas injected will have multiple raised red spots (blebs). The following day these start to settle but there maybe some mild swelling. Usually by day 3-4 you are back to normal.  There is always a risk of bruising at injection sites but there are usually rare.

How many sessions of Polynucleotides would I need?

For optimal results, a course of 3 treatments spaced 3- 4 weeks apart are recommended. Maintenance treatments may be done every 4–6 months depending on your skin’s needs and goals. Your treatment plan will be tailored to your individual skin condition and response.
