Medical Microneedling
What is Medical Microneedling?
Medical microneedling is a minimally invasive skin rejuvenation procedure that uses multiple tiny fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin. This stimulates the body’s natural wound-healing process, promoting the production of collagen and elastin. It’s a highly effective treatment for improving skin texture, reducing fine lines, acne scars, enlarged pores, and overall skin tone. It’s also great for maintaining healthy skin.
How does medical Microneedling work?
Microneedling works by creating microscopic channels in the skin, triggering a healing response that encourages new collagen formation. This process remodels the skin, resulting in smoother, firmer, and more youthful-looking skin.
Why choose Microneedling with Exosomes?
The microchannels made by the microneedling device hugely enhance the absorption of topical treatments and this is where exosomes come into play. Exosomes are tiny, naturally occurring vesicles released by cells that carry signals and nutrients to promote healing, regeneration, and communication between cells. When paired with microneedling, exosomes penetrate deep into the skin, boosting the regenerative effects of the treatment. This powerful combination amplifies collagen production, reduces inflammation, and speeds up healing, delivering faster and more visible results.
We only use the highest quality and scientifically backed products so we use ‘Purasomes’ which are an Italian made multi-patented formulation that combines ethically sourced organic bovine colostrum-derived exosomes with growth factors and other biologically active elements. Each treatment contains 10 billion exosomes, a blend of 20 potent growth factors, including cytokines and signalling proteins that stimulate cellular activity and collagen production. It also has Hyaluronic Acid to provide deep hydration and support skin structure. Amino Acids, Vitamins, Coenzymes, Antioxidants and Peptides.
What are the benefits of Microneedling?
1. Stimulates Collagen and Elastin Production
Microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries that trigger the skin’s natural healing response, boosting the production of collagen and elastin. This results in firmer, more youthful skin over time. A 2008 study demonstrated that skin treated with four microneedling sessions, spaced one month apart, showed up to a 400% increase in collagen and elastin six months after completing the treatment.
2. Reduces Fine Lines and Wrinkles
Increased collagen levels smooth out fine lines and wrinkles, especially around the eyes, mouth, and forehead, making it a valuable anti-aging treatment.
3. Improves Acne Scars and Surgical Scarring
Microneedling helps remodel scar tissue by breaking down old collagen and stimulating new, organised collagen formation making it effective for acne scars and some surgical scars.
4. Minimises Pore Size
By tightening the surrounding skin and enhancing skin texture, microneedling can significantly reduce the appearance of enlarged pores.
5. Enhances Skin Tone and Texture
It evens out skin tone, softens rough texture, and gives a smoother, brighter complexion. It can also improve mild hyperpigmentation and sun damage.
6. Treats Stretch Marks and Skin Laxity
Microneedling is used off-face to treat stretch marks, especially on the abdomen, thighs, or breasts, and to improve mild skin laxity in areas like the neck or décolletage.
7. Safe for Most Skin Types
Unlike lasers or deep chemical peels, microneedling has a lower risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and is generally safe for all skin types.
What to expect during your Microneedling treatment?
Before your appointment: You will be asked to complete an online medical form that Dr. Caroline will go through in person to make sure you are suitable for the treatment and that there are medical contraindications.
During your consultation: Dr. Caroline will go through your medical form in person and discuss your goals. She will then explain the treatment plan and address any concerns or questions that you may have. If you are medically suitable and you wish to proceed with the treatment, you will then be asked to read and sign a consent form.
During your Procedure: Your skin will be thoroughly cleansed prior to the treatment and a topical numbing cream can be applied. This is not always necessary, as most patients do not report experiencing any significant discomfort. Microneedling causes a light pressure with a gentle vibration, and a prickling sensation as the device moves across the skin. We can discuss the pros and cons of opting for numbing cream during your appointment, should you like to know more.
The device is moved methodically across the skin at varying speeds and depths, depending on the area being treated. Exosomes are applied during the treatment to boost the results, improve the skin’s health and as a glide serum to help the device move smoothly across the treatment area. The entire session usually lasts about approximately 45 minutes. After finishing, we will place a LED mask over the treated area to help aid with the skin’s recovery.
Aftercare: You will be given detailed aftercare advice in both a physical and digit form. The treated area will be red with some mild swelling for up to 12 hours post-treatment. After this, the treated area may well resemble a mild sunburn for a few days afterwards. We will always follow-up with you after your treatments to ensure your wellbeing and answer any questions that you may have.
How many Microneedling treatments are required?
We usually advise a series of 3 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart as an induction. The number of sessions will depend on your skin concerns and goals, which will be discussed during your consultation.
When will I start to see the results?
Results typically start to appear 4–6 weeks after your last induction session as new collagen forms. These results continue to improve over the following months. People usually repeat microneedling 2-3 times a year to maintain results.
What is the aftercare advice for Microneedling?
Post-treatment, it’s important to avoid makeup, vigorous exercise, and sun exposure for at least 24–48 hours. Use gentle, hydrating skincare products and apply SPF daily. Avoid active ingredients like retinoids and exfoliants for 5–7 days.
Most people look a bit red (like sunburn) for the rest of the day and usually by the following day are fine to return to work/usual without it looking noticeable.
